I am an experienced British Sign Language (BSL) interpreter, qualified since 2011, with extensive experience working across a wide range of professional, community and public-facing settings. Over the years I have developed a broad portfolio of interpreting experience, allowing me to work confidently with Deaf and hearing people from a variety of backgrounds and in situations ranging from routine appointments to complex and sensitive assignments. I particularly value taking the time to understand the context, terminology and individual communication needs involved in each assignment so that I can provide an accurate, natural and effective interpretation. My approach to interpreting is professional, calm and person-centred. I recognise that every assignment is different, and I aim to work collaboratively with clients, Deaf people, colleagues and other professionals to create an environment where communication can happen as naturally as possible. Alongside my interpreting work, I am involved in the development of the profession through teaching, mentoring, assessing and professional supervision of other sign language interpreters. I am also an independent researcher, with particular interests in the experiences and development of BSL interpreters and the wider interpreting profession. This combination of extensive practical experience, professional development and academic research informs my approach to interpreting. I am committed to reflective practice and to continuing to develop my skills throughout my career.
